About Us - Neil and Diane Wert Serving Richmond, VA and surrounding areas for more than 20 years, Custom Floors & More, Inc. is a family-owned, flooring company dedicated to a positive remodeling experience from start to finish. Neil Wert, Sr., founder and president, brings with him 27 years of flooring experience, while his wife Diane, Secretary of the company, keeps the office running smoothly.    Neil started his flooring career as an installer’s helper, but had aspirations of being more. He advanced quickly to lead installer, and then branched off on his own as a flooring contractor. As a fully insured and licensed Class "B" contractor, Neil could now install, as well as repair virtually any structural problem that he ran into while preparing for a flooring installation.   In October of 1985, Neil renovated a store front in Historical Downtown Richmond--Fushee & W. Broad St.--as a floor covering showroom. Custom Floors & More, Inc. was born! Later, in the winter of 1989, a retail space became available beside Ukrops grocery store at Fountain Square Shopping Center further out W. Broad Street. Neil and Diane saw this as a great opportunity to increase foot traffic and visibility for the company, and this became Custom Floors & More’s new home for half a decade.

During that time, Neil and Diane weathered a recession that drove many Mom and Pop operations out of business. How? A great location, reasonable prices, guaranteed installations, and best of all personalized in-home presentations.

More and more people wanted samples brought to their homes instead of having to make so many trips back and forth to the store for samples. Plus, they valued the creative decorating and color coordinating eye that Neil brought with him to their home. A new phase of Custom Floors & More, Inc. was about to emerge–the Mobile Showroom.

Due to the growing demand for in-home presentations and sampling service, Neil found himself out on the road more than in the showroom. A mobile showroom stocked full of name brand floor coverings offered Custom Floors & More, Inc. more flexibility than being tied to a showroom for set hours each day. In 1995, Neil closed the Fountain Square showroom and converted to a mobile showroom.

Continuing in his philosophy of providing awesome customer service and quality installations, Neil along with his certified installation crews are still beautifying homes throughout the Richmond area.
